How to Organize Your Database (Part 1)

Your database is one of your most important assets as a real estate professional. Here are some good ways to make sure you take care of it.

I learned a long time ago that in real estate, the size of your database will determine the size of your business. Today I’m here to answer a few of the most common questions people have about their databases, including what a CRM is and who you should include in your database.

A CRM is a client relationship management system and your database is the group of people contained within the CRM. Your database should include your sphere of influence, past clients, current clients, and other friends and family you know. Your database should be full of people that know you and like you and could potentially bring you business in the future.
Your CRM will be validated by your use of it.
You want these people to think of you when they think about real estate, so staying in constant contact with them is important. Communicate with them often and always make sure they know you’re in the real estate business.

A good CRM will remind you when it’s time to follow up with these people, whether it’s on an anniversary, a birthday, or holiday. There are hundreds of them to choose from. I’ve used three different CRMs in the last 15 years.

They are all pretty good and mostly work the same, but here’s what I can say about CRMs. Once you’ve made your decision on which one to use, stick with it. No matter what system you pick, it will work out for you as long as you use it properly and consistently over time. The decision to purchase any specific CRM will be validated by your use of it.

If you have any questions for me about CRMs, your database, or anything else relating to your real estate career, give me a call or send me an email. I would love to have a conversation with you about it.
